Dear students and families,

This was a powerful week of learning—and that is a primary focus at GFSS. A strength of public schools is their commitment to building culture of learning—for everyone. Our school’s growth plan promotes strong student achievement in literacy and numeracy and every day, our educators use creative and socially progressive methods to inspire students to stretch themselves to become more literate and more numerate. On Friday, our support staff and teachers attended professional development events around the Boundary and the province. Teachers and Education Assistants engaged in relevant and responsible learning activities that will strengthen their practice and ultimately see our GFSS students grow stronger.

This coming week, the GFSS student council launches our school-teams project. All students and staff have been sub-divided into four groups for friendly fun and to promote group cohesion along with a sense of belonging for our spirit events and other activities. Students: What team are you on? Check the board! Our first team event will be on Oct 31st. Details will be on the daily PA announcements.

I’d like to send a special shout out to recognize the GFSS Global Citizenship Club who raised $286.25 for the food bank this week. Thank you to our students, Ms. Merry, and Ms. Matheson for supporting our community with your generosity.

Limlimpt (means thank you in Nsyilxcən, — Okanagan Language)

~Tom Eccleston, Principal GFSS
