Dear students and families,
On Thursday, GFSS held its Remembrance assembly to recognise those men and women who sacrificed their lives in the service of our nation. The assembly was student-led and featured moving poetry, music, and messages from our students and staff. We were also grateful to share the time with Royal Canadian Legion members (Ken Cruickshank and Chantal Evers) and Mayor Everett Baker. Lest we forget.
This coming week, and we continue to work on a goal in our annual school plan (building a positive school culture) with a special school-team event. Please see the posters for sign-up details. We also are pleased to host Joanie Holmes (Elder-in-Residence) as she leads our grades 8s and 9s in Talking Circles focused on the concepts in the Circle of Courage on Tuesday. Additionally, this week we will also focus on learning more about the history and legacy of Métis leader, Louis Riel.
I’d like to recognize the tremendous effort of our ski/snowboard club and all the community support for last weekend’s winter gear swap and shop. The money raised will help pay for the for the upcoming student trips to our mountains. Lastly, PAC is looking for volunteers for their fall fundraisers. Please email gfsspacpresident@gmail.com if you can help.
