Dear students and families,

This past Monday, GFSS held a school-wide assembly to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Canada’s Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples is a priority across our country–and at GFSS. BC’s public education system designs curriculum that allows all students to gain an understanding of the legacy of harms to Indigenous youth and families caused by the residential school system.

Our Family Conferences are this coming Wednesday (Oct 8). We believe that parents are partners in the success of our students. We invite parents and guardians to book appointments (click this link) with your child’s teachers for a face-to-face (or telephone) informal update. Learn how things are going and share ideas you and teachers have for further growth. Please see our website for instructions how to register and book conferences. The deadline to book is October 7th.

On the same day/time (Oct 8th) as our family conferences, is the GFSS Welcome Back BBQ and we want to meet you! Acting on our commitment to creating a culture of connection, all GFSS families are invited to join in our learning community barbeque. It’s this coming Thursday, in the bistro, between 4:00 and 6:00. No registration is required. Please contact us if you can volunteer to help with the BBQ.

Shout out: Thanks to Student Council for preparing a special pancake breakfast for all GFSS students, we are so grateful to all the folks involved in bringing these events about. All of us at GFSS hope to keep building a positive school culture all year long.
