Dear students and families,
On Tuesday, GFSS came together to honour National Indigenous Peoples Day. This day was an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the rich culture, traditions, and contributions of all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada and right here in the Boundary. The celebration included music, speeches, and a shared meal. We’re grateful to Elder-in-Residence (Joanie Holmes) and the GFSS Indigenous Education Team who helped guide this day and shared their teachings with us. GFSS is proud to support Canada’s journey toward Reconciliation.
This coming week we hold our final days of the semester. Monday and Tuesday are our Assessment Days 1 & 2. Learning is important so don’t miss them. All students are expected to attend both days and engage with semester-ending, summative activities. Monday is A and B blocks, and Tuesday is C and D.
On Wednesday and Thursday, we host Completion Days 1 & 2. Attendance on these days is by student-teacher appointment only. A completion day is an intensive time for students who are not yet meeting minimally acceptable performance. Students can work closely with our educators and focus on completing assignments, projects, other missed/make-up activities. Students are informed by their teacher of their need to attend one or both Completion Days.
To our grads and parents of grads: Thank you for your unwavering support and positive participation in making the GFSS graduation ceremony and celebrations such a meaningful and memorable event. Your encouragement, presence, and partnership helped create a once-in-a-lifetime celebration that truly honoured the achievements and growth of our graduates. Another special thanks to the dozens of volunteers who helped organize, supervise, and carry out all the festivities. I am grateful to have shared this moment with you.
Lastly, I want to let everyone know that over the summer we are renovating and reconfiguring our school washrooms to enhance inclusivity and accessibility. I invite you to click here to read this memo for information about why and what students can expect this fall at GFSS’s school washrooms and would like to extend an invitation to interested parents to meet at GFSS (bistro) on June 24th at 5:00 PM to learn about the plans.
