Dear students and families,
It has been a great start to our year of learning. At GFSS we are committed to the success of every student and work to inspire every student to reach their fullest potential. I am so proud of how resilient and understanding our students have been this past week with the coming portable changerooms, washroom upgrades, and flood repairs being completed around our school.
Inspired by Canadian, Terry Fox, we are launching “Toonie for Terry” this month to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. The Outdoor Education and Careers students will be organizing the campaign. If you are able, please save up a Toonie or some spare change.
At GFSS this next week, our extra curricular activities (ECAs), sports and clubs really start to take off. We are holding ‘Club Day’ to feature our ECAs in the bistro on Wednesday. Posters will be up to indicate what is going on. I encourage all students to get involved with the fun and make a great school year!
At our student assembly last Thursday, we shared the importance of reporting instances of discrimination, harassment, or anything else that bothers students and interferes with a safe and inclusive school. We recognize the importance to respond quickly to correct a problem. I’m sharing this link to “Report It” where students can make anonymous and confidential messages to us. If you see or hear something, say something! https://erasereportit.gov.bc.ca/anonymous-reporting-tool…
At GFSS we welcome your concerns and are committed to working with you to build a positive parent-student-school relationship. As a sign of mutual respect, I encourage students, families, and staff to communicate first with the people closest to where the issue first arose and trust that all communications are courteous and constructive. If this is not possible, please contact the office for additional support.
