Dear students and families,

I want to acknowledge the significance of Red Dress Day last week. It was meaningful to see our GFSS community come together to recognize and reflect on the impact of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people. These moments are central to our school values as they help foster awareness, empathy, and respect. We also extend our thanks to everyone who supported our Career Life Education students in their creative “Tattoo the Teacher” fundraiser to address food insecurity in our community to the tune of $200. It was a great example of students and staff working together to combine leadership, humour, and service in support of our wider community.

This Monday, we are fortunate to welcome ICBC’s guest speaker Ted Swan, who will be speaking with our Grade 11 and 12 students about road safety. His presentation offers a powerful, real-world perspective that reinforces the importance of making safe and responsible choices. Also next week, May 14 marks Moose Hide Campaign Day. This is another important opportunity for learning and reflection focused on ending violence against women and children.

Of sporting note, the GFSS girls’ soccer team is competing this week in Fernie. We are proud of the way our all athletes represent GFSS, demonstrating teamwork, resilience, and school spirit. We wish them every success in their tournament.

Finally, talent show auditions are underway this coming week. This event showcases the creativity and courage of our students as they step forward and share their skills.
